How quickly does Morningstar update data after quarterly reports?

As with all data services, there is no one answer. For many larger companies, the data may be available within 1-4 days after the company issues a quarterly report. For other companies, the data is not available until the relevant data fields are fully reported by the company and incorporated into the data delivered to BetterInvesting. In general, if the company has filed a 10-Q or 10-K report with the SEC, the data is updated in the data service within 1-4 business days. If the company files an 8-K report along with a press release of complete financial information, this data may show up as ‘preliminary’ data in the data service within 1-4 business days. If the 8-k filing is not complete, there will be no 'preliminary' data and the data will only be populated after the 10-Q or 10-K report. For companies that do not report via the SEC (FDIC filers like SBNY) the data is collected manually and often the collection needs to be triggered on request to the data provide. In these cases it may take 1-3 weeks after that request for the report to be populated in the data delivered to BetterInvesting.

The data update time is somewhat dependent upon the size of the company with larger cap companies having priority. Please send us an email at service@betterinvesting.org if you have a question about a specific company. We can either double check or raise it in priority with Morningstar.
